Change

Change can be sweeping,
so big and so fast
Or it can be incremental,
small steps meant to last

Both kinds of change
have their place in this world,
The slow & steady
and the fast & unfurled

When some aspect of life
you’re wanting to change,
Should quick or patient
be how you rearrange?

It all depends on what
change you desire to make,
For some happen instantly
while others, longer they take

And oftentimes the change
is both fast & slow…
The initial transition quick
while the habit takes time to grow

So whatever it is
you are wanting to change,
Take action, then be patient,
don’t force something strange

Allow yourself time
and plenty of space
To change what you want
with dignity and grace

Don’t change for anyone else,
change only for you.
It’s the last comment on change
…simple, powerful & true.

Poetry

Poetry speaks
Volumes
without many words
…Filled with emotion,
Released – like caged birds

Words like
Wings
that take flight in the sky
…Weaving a story
From bits of air floating by

Inspired by anything
or Everything
or perhaps nothing at all
…Poetry captures a thought for a moment
In paradise – a garden surrounded by a wall

Beautiful…
Poetry
no matter where you look
…As long as you remember
To lift your nose from the book

And read not with your
Eyes
but with your heart wide open
…Looking inside to see
Where the words are spoken

Poetry speaks to your
Soul
not to your mind
…To the creative artist in you
That often gets left behind

When the hustle & bustle and busyness of
Life
is allowed to take over, bringing stress & strife
…Poetry is a reminder to stop and take heed;
Accept that life is simple and you already have what you need.

Emotions

“Don’t get all emotional”
- ever heard that advice?
But we are emotional beings
and holding it in comes at a price

The price we pay for holding back
- for holding our emotions in
Is stress and suffering
…and eventually the emotions win

They must always be released
- and so you can let them flow
Like water through a faucet
or you can dam it up to grow

The more the dam is holding back
- the more you may feel numb
But the weight can be too much to bear
and the more fragile it becomes

A tiny crack can cause
- the dam to come crashing down
And the emotions that we’ve held back
now come flooding all around

So let your emotions get in motion
- and they will pass on through;
Then you’ll be able to feel even more
and to your own self be true

Thoughts

So many thoughts
running through my head
Often I just let them run
but sometimes I hang on instead

When I hang on, I get attached
and it’s harder to let go
When I see and let my thoughts run
they simply release & flow

I find that when I hang on to my thoughts
there’s little room for any more
And often as I’m holding on
I forget what I wanted it for

So I find it better to let my thoughts flow
and if they ever get stuck
- I sit down with paper & pen
and write until my thoughts run amok

I know that I’ve released
when new thoughts enter in
And run amok in my brain
only then can I begin

To see the power available to me
in pure potential & infinite possibility
Where my thoughts lead me
to be myself… and free

Actions

Your actions speak so loudly
sometimes your words cannot be heard,
So “do as I say, not as I do”
is an instruction that’s absurd

Sometimes our actions are aligned
with what’s important in our life
But most times our actions
are performed to avoid any strife

We do what we think
will make others greatly approve
Of our actions & who we are
that we often don’t see how we move

Away from what’s important to us…
from the things that bring us hope,
Toward the comfort zone & complacency
where people just settle and cope

You have to take action
to get out of that rut -
Listen to what’s inside,
follow the feeling in your gut

Your intuition will guide you
in the way you need to go
But you must take the first step forward
and with each step you will grow

So let your actions speak for you
they are louder than your words.
Stop contemplating & start doing
or you will never, ever be heard

Colors

In a world of black & white
and infinite shades of gray
how can we disregard all the color
that beautifully surrounds us every day?

Muted colors and bold ones,
neons & pastels,
there’s a full spectrum of colors
- do you know them well?

There are the primary colors, so basic
but they provide the foundation
to create a wide array
of new colors & creations

Often certain colors
can evoke feelings & emotions
- some colors we shy away from
while others we worship with devotion

Whether you enjoy a rainbow of colors
or like the contrast of black & white
your preference can always change
as sure as day turns into night

I like to think our spirits have colors
that change with our focus
and from afar we all appear
like magical colored lights of hocus-pocus

Senses

I can’t ignore my senses
…they are always on
And they are also linked to
memories of times now gone

You hear a song and you remember
where you were when it played;
You smell something & it reminds you
of another time, another day

Things you see can even make you
recall a moment from the past;
And a taste of something can take you back
like a time transport flavor blast

Your sense of touch can also trigger
a response or reaction;
And emotions may come along
…causing you to take action

Your senses create sensations
and they are oh so sensitive,
Able to bring forth a fury of emotions
every second that we live.

Music

Music notes
float toward my ears
…triggering thoughts and emotions
that I’ve collected over the years

Sometimes music
simply makes me want to dance
…and sometimes music
puts me in a deep, meditative trance

Certain songs seem attached
to specific times in my life
…some bring happiness and joy
while others cut my soul like a knife

Tied to memories,
the emotions are strong
…and come flooding back in
at the sound of a song

But if I can stay present in the music
and just listen now
…to the notes as they dance through the air;
my only thought then…is wow.

With music, one can portray
the highest highs, the deepest lows
…music can transport us inside
to a place no one else knows

I think music is magical
and poetry and love
…brought to life with sacred sounds
released to dance in the air above

Until the notes find their way
into an appreciative ear
…one that will not only listen
but ultimately hear

The story of their creation,
their sole purpose for being
…music is created
not to captivate, but to be freeing

Breath

Breath is a critical part of life
yet something we rarely think about;
It’s good that it happens automatically
as it’s something we can’t live without

We must call attention to our breath
in order to make a change;
And like any of our habits,
doing it different may feel strange

But that feeling brings awareness
and can open up our minds
To new ways of doing things
…ways to which we have been blind

By simply slowing down
we can open up our eyes
To new possibilities,
opportunities and surprise

Our breath can be shallow
or our breath can be deep;
Much like how we can experience life
…skimming the surface or taking a leap

I suggest you leap into life
and if it ever feels like too much,
Simply pay attention to your breath
and it will bring you back in touch

In touch with your breath…
inhale in, exhale out;
A simple act to remind you
staying present is what it’s about

Servants

I see so many servants
in my life every day;

People serving others
- not for profit or for pay

But to fulfill their purpose
and follow their life’s passion;
Servants who don’t just talk
- they follow up with action

Helping others when they can
- no ego in the way;
Serving those in want and need
- where work seems more like play

A servants heart is always full
for they know how to receive;
While they give all they can
- they also have faith and believe

Servants believe in the ability of others
and their own abilities, too;
As servants they feel called to give…
- is there anything calling you?
