Inspire

Inspire – breathe in
all that you need
Expire – breathe out
anything from which you want freed

Inspiration is in you
it comes from within
In order to find it
you must stop…and breathe in

Breathe in through your heart
and out through your head
Let go of any thoughts
and listen instead…

When we have questions
that confuse and perplex us
We often look for the answers
from somewhere outside us

Yet the answers we seek
always come from inside
They are not hard to find
though sometimes they hide

To find them we must
be patient and still
And sit with ourselves
then the answers will…

Appear quite easily
in pictures or words
And sometimes we see it,
sometimes it is heard

But it can only be found
when we take time to be -
Still, quiet & reflective
with space to be free

Free to let the answers
rise up from within -
Our inspiration brought to life
each time we breathe in

Buried

If you’re feeling buried
it means you’re ready to grow
…A seed in the soil
that life is ready to sow

All the crap you have endured
is like fertilizer now…
It’s helped prepare you
though you may not yet see how

Nourish that see that’s buried
water it, then watch & see
…A sprout bursts forth from the ground
like your spirit emerging free

And over time you’ll see a bloom
~ a beauty to behold…
Such is the metaphor for life
if you allow it to unfold

Surrender

I surrender,
I give up,
I give in
I’ve had enough…

But wait…is surrender
really the way to go?
It seems to make me less
instead of help me grow

If I raise the white flag
- I surrender in defeat,
I am done with the battle,
I am ready to retreat

But if I let go instead,
it’s an active choice;
It may appear the same
yet now I’m using my voice

I’ve weighed all the options
and announced my decision
Which is a better way
to continue living my vision

I will not surrender
but I may choose to let go
For I will not let someone else
take me over & take control

When Pets Pass Away

A pet has a special place
in our hearts and our homes
And when they pass away
we venture into the unknown

We do not know where they go…
do they have souls & spirits that rise?
Do they simply leave this earth
after heartbreaking good-byes?

What happens after they are gone
may be unknown, it’s true;
But whatever you believe
is all that matters to you

If you’re not sure what to think
take a moment to ponder this -
Your pet is on a new journey
and they’re waiting with a kiss

They will wait patiently
until the time has come,
For you to finally reunite,
then to you they’ll run

And all will be like it was
in the best of times before,
But until that day arrives,
know they’ve already given you more

You’ve got the memories to keep them close
you’ve got the love in your heart
So from this day forward
you’ll never again be apart

A pet leaves paw prints on your heart
and happiness in your soul
A pet gives unconditional love
that fills us up and makes us whole

Five!

Five’s a great number,
a great age to be,
so much to do,
so much to see

Able to do
a lot on your own
reflecting exactly
how much you’ve grown

Your tiny little fingers
and precious little toes
now fill bigger shoes
as you continue to grow

So thankful to know you,
so happy to see,
you growing into
all you can be

Enjoy this year -
it’s great to be 5!
So young and carefree,
happy and alive!

Lose My Mind

Starving for attention,
hungry for appreciation,
searching for significance,
…filled with trepidation

The fruits of my labor don’t fill me up
nor do the sweet treats I enjoy;
expecting life to entertain me
like some silly childhood toy

Looking for something, not sure what,
guilt eating away at my soul,
pretending happiness & fulfillment
are far beyond my control

And so I take a bite of life
- bitter, sour, salty, sweet;
experiences may start one way
then end on a different beat

My heart is still hungry
and so I search and find
that all is need is already here
…if I just lose my mind

Loss

Losing loved ones is always hard
no matter when they go…
it hurts to lose them suddenly
and when you’ve prepared, you know

The time will come to let go,
as they will sometime pass,
and though it may be difficult,
the pain, though strong, won’t last

For life has a way of carrying on
and you shall carry through;
with each end, a new beginning…
what begins is up to you

You can begin to live in sorrow
sad for those who’ve gone,
or you can live and pay tribute…
say a prayer, sing a song

And cherish the memories,
feel the emotions, feel the love,
as you honor their memory
they are watching from above

When it’s time for one to go
their soul, their spirit will rise
and yet their love will continue
in the sparkle of your eyes

Connection

We all crave connection,
so we know we’re not alone,
To know that someone notices,
and cares enough to make it known

But our external connections
are transient, at best
For life is continually happening
and so connections are put to the test

Alternatively, you can have
internal connections, too
When you take the time to notice
what’s right there inside of you

Most of us overlook or forget
the one person whose connection will last;
The one we really need the most,
who we could connect with lightning fast

When we fail to connect with what’s inside
our own body, soul, spirit & mind,
It makes it harder to connect with others
- especially the lasting kind

The connections worth having
are worth fighting for
- Simply reach in, then reach out
it’s all we must do anymore.

Grounded

When I take the time to listen
to what is not being said
I can hear life calling me
before I even get out of bed

There are so many things calling us,
begging for our attention
You could run to each of them
or you could follow your intention

Which comes clear when you ground yourself -
when you know who you are
And your intuition can sense things
though it may seem strange or bizarre

Life is meant for living
and when we do it consciously,
We bring awareness to our choices
and we’re grounded in reality

…Even still we dream on,
our heads up in the sky
While our feet remain on the ground
as we stretch and reach so high

Never lose sight of the dreams
that you want to achieve;
Stay grounded to keep you in motion
and still you have to believe

You deserve to live the dream
- you can achieve it, too
And it is always more fulfilling
when you bring others along with you

Practicing

I rest my head upon my pillow each morn
and think of the day lying before me
- I think not of what I want to do
but how I want to be

As I’ve practiced this routine
there are five things I have found
- that are like my lifelong theme
they are simple and yet profound

Each day I strive for patience
I do my best to stay positive, too
- I also intend to be productive
rather than thinking about what to do

Present is another intention
I remind myself every day
- it helps to bring peace
which is where I want to stay

When I can live each day in peace,
being present, positive, productive & patient, too
- then life will carry on with ease
for I’ve lived my best intentions through

And on days when I come up short
I can remind myself again
- I am always practicing
and it’s about how, not when

It’s about how I live my life,
how I journey through it all
- By practicing my intentions,
I may stumble, but never fall
